Marrakech

Marrakech, in southern Morocco, has for centuries been a place for tourists from all over the world, but this doesn't seem to have affected the way of life here.

Located in the city's old quarter, the Djemaa el-Fna is a square and market place providing tourists  with an unbelievable experience. The mix of market stalls, fire-eaters, story tellers, jugglers, acrobats and snake charmers offers an amazing sight. Astrologers and men with scorpions crawling on their faces all contribute to the scene which has remained unchanged for centuries.
Yet the rest of Marrakech is changing rapidly and developing into a wealthy, hip and  modern city.

While the Djemaa el-Fna and the souks must be the highlights of a trip to Marrakech, there are plenty of other things to see and do in Marrakech.

At nearly 70 m (230 ft) high, the minaret of the Koutoubia mosque is Marrakech's main landmark, and possibly the most perfect Islamic monument in North Africa.

Rebuilt by the Saadians in the sixteenth century, the Ben Youssef Medersa is the largest building in the medina, the ancient city walls of  Marrakech. Another legacy left by this dynasty is the Saadian Tombs, highly decorated and set in a beautiful garden or the El Badi Palace, ruins of a huge palace destroyed in the collapse of the Saadians dynasty.
